Trenitalia, Strisciuglio: "Investments to strengthen the offering"

Trenitalia, Strisciuglio: "Investments to strengthen the offering"

1

ROME (ITALPRESS) – "Trenitalia continues to guarantee its passengers' right to mobility during a challenging period like summer, characterized by infrastructure work that inevitably impacts train travel times." This was stated by Gianpiero Strisciuglio, CEO of Trenitalia, in an interview with Claudio Brachino for the television magazine Italpress Economy. "The commitment began in June, when all the information relating to the changes in the offering was already entered into Trenitalia's sales systems. We have tripled our staff at the stations to manage traffic flows, which have returned to significant levels," he explains. "We have increased maintenance and predictive activities on our fleet, added replacement and supplementary vehicles such as buses, and worked extensively on technology to facilitate access to refunds. It's clear that in times of heightened stress, such as those generated by rising temperatures, the industrial machine's effort increases, as does customer focus. The use of technology is a way to get closer to passengers, including through a chatbot that allows us to communicate with them in real time and offer tools for planning their journey, at a time when the increase in construction sites can also create complexity." Strisciuglio illustrates the numerous investments in the network, also in relation to PNRR funds: "We are in a phase of major transformation of the railway network, a major commitment involving all operators in the sector to minimize the impact on customers. We are moving towards a significant improvement in service with significant reductions in travel times, but not only that. There is also the possibility of using the network in a specialized manner, in addition to a major effort in terms of technological advancement being carried out on both the infrastructure and the trains. At the end of this important phase, transport will certainly be faster and with greater capacity, even more sustainable and efficient." "Regarding the Intercity business segment, with an investment of over €500 million we will strengthen our fleet, we will have 20 new hybrid trains, 12 new electric trains, and 6 battery-powered trains," emphasizes Trenitalia's CEO. "We are moving towards technologically advanced solutions, innovation with a focus on sustainability and service quality. On the High Speed line, there will be an additional 46 trains running on the new network, and we are doing so with over €1.3 billion." of investments”. Regional transport “has been revolutionized in recent years by Trenitalia,” explains Strisciuglio, “from the current 800 trains we will reach over 1000 in 2027, thus bringing 80% of our fleet completely renewed.”

Finally, a look abroad. "The ability to use our Frecciarossa on cross-border connections is a testament to the success of our product. This has already happened and been consolidated on the Milan-Paris connection, which resumed last April with great success. It's a journey that lasts about seven hours, but the goal is to significantly shorten this travel time. However, the experience continues because we will have our Frecciarossa on the Milan-Munich and Rome-Munich connections. Together with our German colleagues, we are bringing the Frecciarossa brand to Germany with the aim of continuing on this route to both Berlin and Naples. This is a concrete project that will begin at the end of 2026 and will gradually involve Trenitalia and its German partners in another prestigious cross-border connection," concludes the CEO.
